Varjo Brings Believable VR Into Focus

Posted on March 28, 2018

After dominating the portable videos game market with the worldwide smash success of the Game Boy, Nintendo turned its attention to a developing technology so far ahead of its time that the resulting device would prove a dismal commercial failure. Released in 1995, Nintendos Virtual Boy offered a monochrome 224p display and stereo sound that, let’s be honest, wouldn’t come close to passing muster today. It’s incredible High Definition detail that has driven the immersive new forms of VR tech onto human heads around the world, and it’s detail that will keep viewers glued to the apparently real but definitely fake environment created for them. That holds true of porn, too.

Finnish VR startup Varjo recently unveiled a prototype VR headset promising images fifty times as clear, sharp, and realistic as any preceding VR device. Though initially intended for industrial and military training simulations, the porn world should be very, very excited. The new Varjo apparatus bases the tech behind its lifelike display on human visual perception, lowering the resolution of images falling in our VR peripheral vision and amplifying the resolution of that we find ourselves looking at directly. Varjo’s team aims to bring a final version to market by the years end, meaning the current state of VR porn has about 18 months to catch up to this potentially game-changing development.

Pixmax, a VR company out of Shanghai, has developed a headset it claims can much more closely replicate the human field of peripheral vision (200°) while providing 4K and 8K resolutions. When your viewing options include treatment from nurse Britney Amber and a rainy day home from college with scorching newcomer Monica Sage these leaps in tech could very well result in a wave of agoraphobia afflicting porn viewers globally.

Varjo’s headsets are headed for a $600-$1200 price point but its tech, and that of Pixmax, should infiltrate the demanding VR market pretty quickly. Soon you’ll be gawking at your favorite porn babe, spotting every single tiny hair on her body, every lip bite and eye roll, and thigh quiver, as she straddles your lap and pulls you into a wild world of increasingly realistic and believable virtual sex that’s inching closer and closer to fully mimicking reality.
