The first keynote speech of the Facebooks F8 conference is mere moments from beginning and, while much of the anticipation is over the social media giant’s response to its recent data sharing and privacy scandals, those with a keen eye on Virtual Reality news are eager to learn more about the impending release of the Oculus Go headset, the secretive “Project Santa Cruz,” and the evolution of its VR social environment Spaces .
The Oculus Go Headset is available for preorder on Amazon
Spaces and Project Santa Cruz (which remains a separate project to Oculus Go) may be of some interest to VR newcomers, but the sub-$200 price tag of Oculus Go has already made it a hotly anticipated addition to the VR headset market. Operating without need of a smart phone or PC-tethering, the self-contained unit will be compatible with most apps built for Samsung’s Gear VR and will retail at $199 USD.
Most exciting of all, though, is that Oculus Go appears to be on the verge of being available for Amazon preorder, at least according to Engadget and two eagle-eyed VR tech obsessives, one human , one virtual.
